On March 9, Barcelona Packaging Hub held its first University Sessions at the Escuela Universitaria Salesiana de Sarrià (EUSS) and the Centro de Formación Profesional Salesians de Sarrià an initiative aimed at university and vocational students with the goal of bringing them closer to the packaging sector and showcasing the professional opportunities offered by this industry.

In this first edition, several Hub associate companies participated: United Barcode Systems, Effytec, Synchropack and Mengibar, sharing their experience, technologies and the projects they develop within the packaging and industrial automation sector.

Connecting industry and university

The session brought together students from different university degrees and vocational programs related to engineering and industrial automation. Participants included students of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering, as well as students specializing in industrial automation and robotics, production programming in mechanical manufacturing, and electromechanical maintenance.

The event began with an introduction to the Barcelona Packaging Hub, providing context about the packaging sector, how a packaging production line works, and the role that technology companies play within this industry. This overview helped students understand the scale of the sector and its impact on multiple industries such as food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

Afterwards, each participating company presented its activity, explaining the technological projects they develop and showing real examples of solutions applied in industrial packaging lines. This direct interaction allowed students to better understand how the sector operates and which professional profiles are needed to drive its evolution.

A commitment to young talent

The University Sessions also aim to open new professional opportunities for students with technical profiles, facilitating direct contact with leading companies in the sector.

This type of initiative helps to:

  • Connect companies with highly qualified young talent.
  • Showcase internship opportunities and first professional experiences.
  • Encourage collaboration between industry and universities to foster innovation.

For the Hub, young talent is a key element in continuing to develop technologies that transform the packaging sector. The incorporation of new generations brings fresh perspectives, creativity and technical capabilities that are essential in an increasingly digitalized and automated industrial environment.
